Eagles soar to a commanding win
< < Back toLANCASTER, Ohio (WOUB)- The Grove City Christian Eagles stormed the newly built castle of the Fairfield Christian Knights and came away with a win
This season’s edition of the “Holy War” also served as the opening of Fairfield Christian’s new turf field. This special occasion drew plenty of fans to the stadium for the game.
The first drive of the game took up half of the first quarter and resulted in an Eagles touchdown following two crucial offsides calls against the Knights. Quarterback Douglas Housley took the draw and scrambled into the end zone.
The Knights had a rough start to their first drive as the kickoff was downed at their own six yard line. They proceeded to go three and out and punt the ball back to Grove City Christian.
The Eagles took advantage of the great field position with a twenty five yard touchdown pass from Douglas Housley to John Gibson. Fairfield Christian failed to gain much momentum at all in this game.
Giving the ball right back to the Eagles. Grove City drove down the field to begin the second period. Cayden Carroll ended up finishing the job with a four yard touchdown run making it 21-0 Eagles.
The Knights showed some fight on the following possession and began to move the ball down the field until a fumbled quickly ended the effort. Grove City wasted no time cashing in off the turnover as Douglas Housley connected with Josiah Harmeyer for a thirty five yard touchdown through the air.
A few possessions later the Knights would come up with an interception courtesy of Tj Blair. However, nothing would come from this as the first half came to an end.
The second half would be where Grove City Christian began to pour it on and put the Knights away. Beginning with a sixty yard touchdown catch from Austin Dahmer that started the running clock for the rest of this contest.
This was followed by a blocked Fairfield Christian punt deep in their own territory which led to another Austin Dahmer score, this time from eight yards out. Colton Stanley finished off this game securing the interception on defense for the Eagles and taking a quarterback sneak ninety yards to the endzone on the subsequent possession.
This made the final score 49-0. Fairfield Christian couldn’t get into a groove this game and fall to 1-3 on the year.
The Fairfield Christian Knights will be back in action on September 21, where they will take on the Fisher Catholic Irish.
