ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB)  – The number 3 Eastern Eagles of the TVC hosted the number 3 Point Pleasant Big Blacks of the Twin State Conference. The Eagles came into the match ready to win after losing to Southern 64-61 (OT) just last week. Point Pleasant came in to the match suffering a loss to Portsmouth West.

The game started off quick for Point Pleasant. Ball movement was efficient and open looks came easy. They were able to score 25 in the first quarter. The Eastern defense looked to be lagging behind the fast-paced offense that Point Pleasant was running. The Eagles offense couldn’t get settled in forcing some bad shots early.

In the second quarter it was fast paced for the eagles, not taking a lot of time developing plays. Colton Loyd took charge and made some difficult contested jumpers to keep the Eagles in the game. He finished with 16 points on the night, leading the Eagles offense.

The only issue for Eastern, Point Pleasant was there to match it and get a little more. Junior Carrsen Lambert did some heavy lifting for the Point Pleasant Offense with 4 three pointers just in the first have. Point Pleasant gained up to a 15-point lead. The eagles slowly chipped away and got it to 35-39 at halftime.

To begin the third quarter, The eagles showed some signs of life after forcing some turnovers. This allowed them to disrupt the scoring of Point Pleasant. Giving them opportunities to come back. Point Pleasant continued to move the ball well.

Eastern decided to switch their defense to a 3-2 zone. The only thing that kept them alive was getting boards on offense. This allowed the Eagles to pick up a substantial amount of putback points. At the end of the third it was 53-55.

In the final quarter of play the Point Pleasant offensive production slowed down. Both teams started to get a little sloppy. Not handling the ball well, shooting contested shots, turning the ball over constantly.

Grant Barton led the Point Pleasant offense. Showcasing his shot creating abilities and finishing in the lane with contact, he finished with 20 on the night. The Eagle’s defense was able to close the gap and lost their fourth consecutive game 66-76.

The Eagles are 7-7 and will go onto play Trimble later in the week. For Point Pleasant they move to 5-6 after the win, they will face off against Gallia Academy.
