SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WOUB) — Vinton County’s season came to an end Wednesday night at South Point, as the Lady Vikings couldn’t keep up with the physical Pointers team and fell 51-24.

Vinton County got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 7-1 lead early in the first quarter. South Point quickly strung together a few solid possessions and slowed the game down to the tempo it wanted to play at. South Point regained control and ended the first quarter with a 12-9 lead.

The game fell out of reach rather quickly for the Lady Vikings soon after. Vinton County scored just one field goal in the second quarter and began amounting turnovers, tallying 10 total in the first half alone.

The Pointers kept their foot on the gas and raced to a commanding 27-point victory to open the state tournament. Their aggressiveness pressing Vinton County’s guards was the key difference-maker in the game and will be paramount to winning any future games this postseason.

Vinton County ends the season with an impressive 14-9 record, a major improvement from last season. The Lady Vikings also finished with a 6-6 conference record, good for fourth in the TVC-Ohio. With four seniors graduating and the majority of the rotation returning, next season is looking promising for head coach Brett Jones’ team.

South Point moves on to the sectional final against McClain on Saturday at 2 p.m.
