ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Southern Ohio-based singer-songwriter Trey Hedrick releases his debut single today: Go Gently Fall, which reflects deeply on family, memory, and the weight of inherited struggles.

Stylistically, the song is rooted in Appalachian musical traditions, like blues, bluegrass, and classic country. Hedrick’s musical heritage runs deep. His grandparents played in a traveling bluegrass band as young adults, and Hedrick says he “can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a guitar in my hands.”

“Growing up in that rich musical tradition, I also became aware—maybe earlier than most—of the weight that hung over my family,” Hedrick says. “Mental struggles ran deep, and so did the ways people tried to quiet them, whether through music, alcohol, or other means. Go Gently Fall reflects the dreams and memories my subconscious likes to feed me—scenes from childhood, surrounded by people doing their best to hold it together. Winter always hit hard for them, and it still does for me and many others. That’s where the line “Come quickly, summer, and go gently fall” comes from.”
