ATHENS, OH – Aidan Cagna, a media arts production major, is excited to start the next chapter of his life upon graduating from Ohio University this May. He hopes to use the skills he has learned from WOUB’s automated production facility to become a newscast director.

“WOUB has so many great opportunities to grow,” said Cagna. “You can get your hands on equipment that is industry standard.”

Last year, A new production control system was installed at WOUB Public Media to enhance both the student learning experience and the quality of content for WOUB TV viewers. The Ross Production Control system helps automate production, manage video signals, create more dynamic visuals for viewers and produce smoother transitions. It is used every weeknight for WOUB’s half-hour live news program, NewsWatch, as well as WOUB’s high school sports programs, Gridiron Glory and Hardwood Heroes.

Cagna, who is originally from Alliance, Ohio, chose Ohio University because of its welcoming nature.

“I chose Ohio because it felt like my hometown. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.”

Cagna has been involved with WOUB since his freshman year, where he has primarily worked on Gridiron Glory and NewsWatch.

“My favorite WOUB memories come from working on Gridiron. I’ve run cameras in the studio as well as assistant directed shows,” said Cagna. “I like that we get to cover these athletes to give them the spotlight that they wouldn’t normally have.”
