ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – A central hub of Athens County, Athens County Public Libraries hosts events, art exhibits, music shows, story times, guest speakers, and educational classes. It provides meeting space and internet access, lends bicycles, yard games, and – oh yes – books. The library does all this for free despite facing funding and book challenges.
Nick Tepe, Director of Athens County Public Libraries, and Dawn Handley, Adult Program Coordinator of the Plains Public Library, stopped by WOUB’s Studio B for a conversation with Robin Barnes. The trio discussed the ACPL’s fabulousness, its challenges, and the upcoming screening of the PBS Independent Lens documentary Free For All: the Public Library.

The free screening will occur at the Athena Cinema (20 South Court Street) on Saturday, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. The event will feature a panel discussion, trivia, and library-related prizes.
