ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio Athletics has concluded its search for its next head coach and has landed on Andrew See as the next man to call the shots from the dugout. See comes back to Ohio after a season as the pitching coach and associate head coach at Liberty. See is a former Ohio two-way player, who experienced success on the field as a player and coach. See is now set to embark on his first head coaching job in his career at the NCAA level.
See was a transfer from Georgia after one season in 1998. Between the 1999-2001 seasons, See was a reliable hitter and pitcher, racking up over 30 homers and 110 RBIs while also winning 13 games on the bump. In 2001, he had a standout campaign where he hit 17 homers and drove in 70 runs. Additionally, he was able to be an asset on the mound for his team.
After his playing days were complete, See went on to become a coach at Ohio in 2002 and 2003, coaching Ohio great Marc Krauss during his time. See moved away from Athens to become an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro where he coached future MLB player Danny Valencia, who finished third in the 2010 AL Rookie of the Year voting. After one season at UNCG, he went up the road to Appalachian State for two seasons to serve as the recruiting coordinator.
It was in 2007 that he would return to Athens as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. See put together some of the best mid-major recruiting classes at the time. Some highlights of his time in Athens include three home wins vs Pitt in 2008, 2009 and 2011, a series split vs Purdue in 2008, and a 2011 road win against Duke.
Following his time at Ohio, See would be whisked away, ironically, to Duke. See’s time at Duke was prolific as his staffs would break numerous records during his time, including the season strikeout mark, the two best team ERAs in 2014 and 2015 in decades and helping six pitchers get drafted. Following this successful stint at Duke, he joined another ACC team, Clemson. See was at Clemson from 2016-22 and transformed another pitching staff. He cultivated a number of talents, none better than Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider. At Clemson, over 15 pitchers were drafted and the program collected over 200 wins.
See would make his way back to the Buckeye State in 2023 when he became the recruiting coordinator for Ohio State. He posted top-50 recruiting classes in both years there as well as contributing to winning records in both seasons. Prior to the 2025 season, See was brought to Liberty to assist with its program.
One thing that See brings that is certainly needed will be some insight into pitching. Ohio was one of the worst teams this season when it comes to pitching, compiling an 8.30 staff ERA in 2025. The area that See will truly shine will be in turning around a pitching staff that has lacked a lot of success over the past few seasons.
Additionally, See will have to battle the transfer portal. He is an experienced recruiter, something that he will need. Ohio has ten players currently in the transfer portal from last season’s team. Currently, only 17 players from the 2025 roster are planning on returning. That means that See will need to add a number of freshmen and transfers to this roster in order to actually field a team and a competitive team at that. However, with a full offseason ahead of him, See will have every opportunity to recruit and implement his vision for a program.
