Congress ends federal funding for WOUB and all public media organizations
< < Back toWith action taking place in the House in the early hours this morning, Congress passed H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025 by a vote of 216-213.
This bill claims back previously Congressionally approved funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) for FY26 and FY27. As a reminder, the federal FY26 begins on October 1, 2025.
We want to thank all of our viewers and listeners who made calls, wrote letters, and sent emails to legislators in support of WOUB and public media organizations across the country. And we certainly thank all of our new and long-time donors.
Here at WOUB we are devastated but not deterred. We recognize that there will be changes coming, both programmatically and operationally as the capacity for us to locally raise the $1.4M lost from our CPB grant every year may not be possible.
Still, as we move into our 76th year of radio service and 62nd year of television service – our mission to the region has never, and will never waver. We will work to remain a trusted source of news, sports, local content and educational resources that have proven to be worthy of the time, effort and support of our users. WOUB will remain an experiential-learning unit of the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University while providing online and broadcast services along with non-broadcast educational services and student professional development.
Through our support of public service, teaching, research and administrative missions, along with our high-quality local content and programming, WOUB enriches, enhances and expands the lives and horizons of the faculty, staff, students and the greater communities we serve.
