< < Back toWATERFORD, Ohio (WOUB) – The Trimble Tomcats traveled to Waterford on Thursday night to take on the Wildcats. The Tomcats walked into the gym with focused energy, ready to set the tone from the start. Determined to capture their first win of the season, they carried themselves with confidence. The mindset paid off, and they battled hard to defeat the Wildcats in four sets.
The Tomcats came out strong in the first set with aggressive play and quick attacks. Their defense stayed on their toes, preventing the Wildcats from scoring. Sophomore Brooklyn Burdette was on fire at the net, consistently attacking with power, finding gaps in the defense, and forcing the Wildcats to scramble, helping them gain a 12-6 lead. With consistent energy and control, the Tomcats came out on top, closing set one with a 25-14 score.
Jumping out early in the second set, Junior Bailee Bickley energized Trimble with her pinpoint spot serving, quickly putting together a five to zero lead, which had Waterford on their heels. Not only did her serves score points but also disrupted Waterford’s offensive rhythm giving Trimble a clear advantage. Trimble kept the pressure on Waterford with their sharp attacks at the net and smart plays in the backcourt. They controlled the tempo and forced errors from Waterford from start to finish to secure the second set 25-18.

In the fourth set, the teams traded points in a back-and-forth battle. The score stayed tight as each rally grew longer and more intense, with both schools matching each other’s energy. In the final moments, Trimble stayed composed and executed key plays to pull ahead and close out the match for a 25-23 win. The hard-fought victory left the Tomcats’ coach, Alicia Drake, celebrating a new milestone, earning her first win at Trimble High School.
The Tomcats hope to carry the momentum from their win into Saturday as the head to Unioto High School for the Unioto Invitational. The Wildcats look to bounce back in their next matchup as they travel to Shenandoah to face off against the Zeps on Tuesday.
