NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes beat the River Valley Raiders on Thursday night.

The Buckeyes started strong in the first set with multiple aces and kills from Lexi Warren and Cat Dixon. Dixon played outside hitter in this game, different from her normal role in the middle, but that didn’t stop her. The Raiders kept it competitive, forcing Nelsonville-York into several errors. Raider Aubrey McCarty came up with a big block, but Buckeye Morgan Lehman answered with one of her own. Nelsonville-York won the first set 25-17 on a kill from outside hitter Madi Pidcock.

River Valley started the second set with an early lead on aces and Buckeye errors. The momentum shifted when Nelsonville-York began making kills across the front row. Dixon, Warren and Pidcock all contributed midway through the set. After a River Valley timeout, Lehman recorded back-to-back kills to help secure the 25-23 win.

Errors continued for both teams in the third set. Warren delivered an ace followed by a kill to bring the Buckeyes back, but the Raiders kept pressing. River Valley senior Haley Edwards put down consecutive aces, even after a timeout, and the Raiders pulled out the 25-23 win.

Nelsonville-York found its spark again in the fourth. Ella Volhken served three straight aces to give the Buckeyes momentum. Dixon kept the energy up with another big kill and finished the night with eight total. The Buckeyes closed out the match with a 25-16 win.

Nelsonville-York will travel to Logan to play the Chieftians on Friday. While River Valley will play the Lancers away at Federal Hocking on Monday.
