River Valley wins defensive showdown against Wellston

WELLSTON, Ohio (WOUB) – The River Valley Raiders traveled to Wellston Friday, battling through four quarters in a matchup defined by defense and field position. The Raiders ultimately defeated the Rockets 3-0.
Defensive play in the first half kept both teams scoreless. River Valley leaned heavily on quarterback keepers and runs to move the chains, while Wellston relied on RB Josh Clarkson in the ground game. Unable to gain any momentum, neither side was able to break the tie. The score was tied 0-0 at halftime.
The defensive battle continued as both teams shut down third- and fourth-down attempts. Wellston’s offense pushed into River Valley territory a handful of times, but was unable to get points on the board.
With less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, River Valley secures a 3-0 lead, holding firm on defense to take home a win. River Valley walks away with a victory in a tight matchup, with both teams putting up strong defensive efforts.
