Autism. ADHD. Bipolar disorder. Down Syndrome. These are diagnoses, not definitions. I Am disABLEd challenges viewers to look beyond the label and see the full humanity, creativity, and capability of young people navigating the world with disabilities.
“A person is a person, no matter how small.” That iconic phrase captures the heart of this powerful documentary. I Am disABLEd invites all audiences — the small and the tall — to discover what’s truly possible when we lead with empathy, celebrate individuality, and redefine what it means to belong.

The film follows the journey of nine young people with disabilities as they prepare for and perform in the musical Seussical. As these young artists take center stage, the spotlight shifts to their talents, their determination, and their shared humanity. Their challenges and triumphs unfold in a heartwarming story that pushes past stereotypes and invites viewers to reflect on what it truly means to belong.
“This film emphasizes that a disability or mental illness is just one singular aspect of someone, and it’s up to all of us to see beyond that,” says Caralee Rath, mother of Hannah, one of the film’s stars. By sparking thoughtful dialogue around identity, inclusion, and acceptance, I Am disABLEd opens the door for a deeper understanding of how we can destigmatize disability — together.

Maddie Wright, a featured artist in the documentary, shared: “To tell the truth, it impacted my life in a way I didn’t expect. I AM disABLEd, that film, I just want to give out the message of different abilities. Do not judge at all until you meet someone.”
Kelli Feigley, Founder and Managing Director of Fresh Films, shared, “This film is a testament to the power of inclusive storytelling. It not only highlights the brilliance and creativity of the young people on stage, but also the voices behind the scenes helping bring their stories to life. At Fresh Films, we’re proud to create spaces where all youth — of all abilities — can explore their talents, be heard, and shape the narratives that matter most.”
“There is an amazing transformation that occurs when people not only feel included but feel truly accepted,” said Rachael Damm, whose daughter, Halea, is featured in the film.
