NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – In this episode of Conversations From Studio B, host Emily Votaw speaks with members of the cast and creative team behind Cabaret, opening Thursday, October 23 at Stuart’s Opera House (52 Public Square).

Guests include director and music director Devin Sudman, along with cast members Carter Rice, Sam Pelham, and Cam LaGraff. Listen to the conversation by clicking “play” in the SoundCloud embed above.

Set in 1930s Berlin during the final years of the Weimar Republic, Cabaret follows the patrons and performers of the Kit Kat Klub—a world of dazzling escapism on the brink of collapse.

As the rise of fascism closes in, the show explores the tension between joy and despair, indulgence and consequence.

A Tony and Grammy Award–winning musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb, Cabaret provides commentary on art, politics, and humanity.

Stuart’s production features a full pre-show experience beginning at 6:30 p.m., with themed cocktails and live entertainment in the lobby before the curtain rises. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m., offering audiences a chance to step inside the glamour and unease of Berlin’s most infamous nightclub.

Through this conversation, Sudman, Rice, Pelham, and LaGraff reflect on the show’s enduring relevance and the creative process behind bringing Cabaret to life at Stuart’s Opera House.
