Sheridan defeats Morgan to pick up sixth straight win

THORNVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Sheridan Generals (6-2) had all the momentum on their side, winning five straight games, but standing in their way was the Morgan Raiders (5-3). The MVL-Big battle started with several big plays, but Sheridan ran away with the game, winning 35-14.
The Generals have historically dominated Morgan with 17 straight wins against the Raiders. The last time Morgan won at Paul Carver Jr. Stadium was in 2000.
After two losses to start the season, Sheridan found their groove, winning five straight games. The Raiders had a similar start to the season, winning three straight games after back-to-back losses.
The Generals looked to keep their streak alive with the first play of the game being a 45-yard dime from Tyce Whiteman to Luke Skinner to put Sheridan up seven.
The Raider offense struggled to move the ball in their first drive and gave the ball right back to Sheridan with a James Solomon interception.
The tide started to turn with Morgan punching the ball out of the hands of Logan Jones, and the Raiders regained possession.
Explosive plays started to come in bunches, and the Raider offense heated up. Hayden Bankes made a tough catch over the middle for 28 yards. Tanner Bankes finished the drive off on the next play with a 48-yard rush to the house to tie the game at seven.
The Generals slowed down their pace of play, giving plenty of carries to Logan Russell. After wearing down the defense, Sheridan went to the air again, this time it was Logan Hupp who took it up the sideline for 32 yards, giving his team a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
On both sides, the defenses locked in, forcing three straight punts. That was until Sheridan had another long drive, after eight plays, Russell capped it off by somersaulting into the endzone for a 12-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 21-7.
Neither team was able to strike again before the half.
The Generals continued their offensive success in the second half, picking up two more rushing touchdowns. Morgan was able to score late in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as Sheridan won their sixth straight game 35-14.
Sheridan has a tall task in front of them next week, facing off against Tri-Valley.
Morgan will have a chance to get back into the winning column, going against winless River View.
