Portsmouth storms Rock Hill in a high temper matchup at Redmen Stadium

IRONTON, Ohio (WOUB) — The Portsmouth Trojans picked up their 5th win of the season in a 48-7 avalanche against Rock Hill.
During warmups it was clear these two teams didn’t like each other and that bad blood spilled into the game. Opening kickoff and disaster would strike immediately for Portsmouth. A mishandle on the opening kickoff forced the Trojans to begin the game inside their own five-yard line. Rock Hills’ defense wouldn’t allow this golden opportunity go to waste and forced the three and out.
Later in the 1st, Rock Hill is on the move pushing the ball inside the red zone. QB Dallin Cox hands it off to RB Bardy Murrell, and he would drag two defenders into the end zone for the 12-yard touchdown giving Rock Hill the early 7-0 lead!
The ensuing kickoff and a good return would set up Portsmouth around midfield. A few plays later and a screen pass from QB Marquez Locklear to WR Camron Williams would go all the way to the endzone from over 40 yards out tying this game up 7-7!
Next drive and Cox is picked off by #12 Leeland Scurlock! Portsmouth would waste no time capitalizing off the turnover; Locklear would find TE Trevin Brooks on a slant, and he rumbled his way inside the 5 pummeling a defender on the way. Locklear would then find the endzone on a QB sneak; a penalty negates the extra point giving us a score of 13-7 Portsmouth.
Turnovers would continue to haunt Rock Hill. On the handoff Murrell fumbles the ball and DB Camron Williams picks it up for the scoop and score! Portsmouth would go for 2 and got it pushing their lead to 21-7.
Start of the 2nd quarter and the nightmare would continue for Rock Hill. A short punt from the Redmen would be returned all the way for a touchdown by Dontavion Parker! Then after a 4th down stop, the Trojans would strike again this time from over 50 yards out on a dime from Locklear to Scurlock, pushing the Portsmouth lead to 34-7! Tempers began to flare at the end of the half, with both teams needing to be separated. Portsmouth would head into the locker room with a 34-7 lead and would begin to taunt the Redmen fans with their own tomahawk chop.
Portsmouth would pick right back up where they left off in the first half. RB Fernando Poxes would burst for an 18-yard touchdown run extending the lead to 41-7. Then in the 4th quarter, Poxes would explode again this time from 40 yards out for the score! Portsmouth would go on to win this contest 48-7. The Trojans will look to carry this momentum into next week against South Point. While Rock Hill will be looking to bounce back next week at Chesapeake.
