JACKSON, Ohio(WOUB) — The Jackson Ironmen (8-2, 5-0 in FAC) hosted the Chillicothe Cavaliers(6-4, 3-2 in FAC) in the final week of the regular season and won 35-0
The first quarter saw a slow start with shutdown defense. Jackson would get a quick stop on the first drive. Then we would see back to back 3 and outs from both defenses. Jackson would finally get some rhythm going on offense and after getting inside the 30, the Cavaliers would get a big stop and force a turnover on downs. The quarter would end off with a strong drive from sophomore Cartae Ligon and put them in great field position going into the second quarter. Game was tied 0-0 after 1.
Straight out of the second we would see a big stop right away from the Ironmen to spoil the Cavaliers drive. We would finally see the first score of the night on a 70 yard drive that was capped off by a 10 yard rushing touchdown from senior Ryan Seimetz. Chillicothe would still struggle to get anything going on offense as they would be stopped once again by the Ironmen. Chillicothe would not see the redzone once in this first half. On Jackson’s final drive of the half, it looked like they would get shut down, but on a 4th and 2, senior Bodhi Wolford would take off for a 38 yard run and then Seimetz would finish the half with his second touchdown of the game and Jackson would be leading 14-0.
Coming out of the half the game would stay similar to the first as Chillicothe would get a stop and Jackson followed it up with 2 sacks to get the ball right back. Wolford would find a rhythm in the passing game as he threw for 68 yards on the drive and then finished off the drive taking it in himself for a 5 yard rushing touchdown. With that long drive, it would cap off the end of the 3rd quarter, 21-0 Jackson.
In the fourth, the Ironmen would now even get their special teams involved as they block a punt setting themselves up on Chillicothe’s 43 yard line. On the very first play of the drive, Wolford would find senior Eli Ray for a 43 passing touchdown and after another quick stop from the lockdown Ironman defense, Seimetz would take out a 72 yard run. Following it up, junior Dayton Kallner would capitalize with a 35 yard touchdown and with a running clock it would end the game, 35-0 Jackson.
Jackson’s biggest factor this game was being dominant on both sides of the ball all game long and not taking their foot off the gas. Their defense shut down the Cavaliers run game, which has been dominant all year. On the other side both, Seimetz and Wolford ended up scoring 2 touchdowns each to solidify the victory.
Looking ahead both Jackson and Chillicothe are looking at playoff berths in Division 12. The playoff brackets will officially be out this weekend.
