ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Ohio Women’s Basketball (2-1) took on Morehead State (1-2) for the Rufus’ field trip game. Last season the Bobcats lost to the Eagles, 89-60. However, this time the result was different as the Bobcats won 76-60.

The first quarter saw both teams struggle to put points on the board for three minutes. That was until Bailey Tabeling scored a triple to start the scoring. After the three, Ohio got into a groove with scoring on three-straight possessions. However, as the first quarter was closing down, Marie Sepp made a crazy half-court shot to give the Eagles momentum going into the second quarter. At the end of the first, the score was 16-10 Ohio.

The Bobcats decided to use the second quarter to extend their lead as much as they could. The Bobcats’ defense shut down the Eagles’ offense and left them scoreless for much of the second quarter. Meanwhile the offense rolled, going on a 12-0 run for the last two minutes of the quarter. The score at the end of the first half was 37-18, Ohio.

At the start of the second half, the Eagles came out strong on both offense and defense. They help Ohio’s offense scoreless for four minutes and their offense went on a 15-0 run to push the score to 45-41 with the Bobcats still leading. Ohio struggled to gain momentum in third as constant missed opportunities and turnovers would plague them. This allowed Morehead State to come back and push the score to 52-50 with Ohio still holding the lead.

With five minutes left in the fourth quarter and a timeout called, Ohio regrouped and put the game out of the Eagles’ reach. The Bobcats made four of their last five field goals, with Tabeling scoring a triple to get Ohio rolling on with points.  Morehead State tried to fight back into the game, but Ohio’s defense stopped them, and the final was 76-60, Ohio.

Tabeling played a crucial role in the victory over Morehead State, she explained what went well or her tonight.

“Honestly, just reading the floor and the defense. My teammates do a really good job on and off the ball, and also being ready for my passes… Just finding the open space for my teammates,” she said.

The Bobcats will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on Xavier (2-1) on Nov. 20.
