BIDWELL, Ohio (WOUB) — On Friday night, the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (7-6, 3-4) took on the River Valley Raiders (6-8, 3-5). This is the second time this regular season that these teams are going head-to-head. The first time, the Buckeyes won 62-47.

The first quarter started off intense, with both teams scoring back and forth and a small difference in score. Both teams had a notable defense and put up a fight for every ball rebounded. River Valley then took a lead with the help of shooting guard Luke Flint making consistent layups. The first quarter ended with the Raiders ahead of the Buckeyes 20-13.

In the second quarter, the Raiders took the lead and ran with it. Towards the end of the second, River Valley had a 10-point lead over Nelsonville. River Valley’s strong resilience at the net helped them secure rebounds that led them to the lead. The quarter ended with the Raiders still in the lead, 41-33.

The third quarter began with Nelsonville bringing in a more intense game in an effort to catch up. About halfway into the third, Nelsonville’s Champ Shultz dominated by 23 points out of the 47 at the time. He helped close the previous 10-point gap into a tie. River Valley did not let their guard down too much, still holding on to the lead 57-53.

In the fourth quarter, both teams started off strong because of the tight score. With River Valley’s aggressiveness both at the net and defensively, they pulled ahead. Back and forth fouling in the last 20 seconds of the game made the teams combative and ready for whatever happens. However, River Valley pulled through and won the game 71-66.

This game for River Valley took back the previous win from Nelsonville-York. This leaves the Raiders 6-8, and the Buckeyes 7-6. The Buckeyes will look to turn it around and get a win Wednesday versus Miller.
