McARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) – The Vinton County Lady Vikings took on the Logan Elm Lady Braves at home in a non-conference matchup. The Lady Vikings fought hard, but Logan Elm held on to win by a final score of 68-66.

Both teams were energized for this game, and the scoring was back-and-forth between both teams to start. The Braves would take the lead early by getting off to a strong start on both ends.

Logan Elm would start doing a good job of creating turnovers and knocking down outside shots. The Vikings called an early timeout, which would help cut down the Braves’ lead.

Vinton County was able to knock down more shots, including some deep three-pointers.  However, the Lady Vikings kept struggling on the defensive side, giving up open layups.

The Braves would lead 31-25 at halftime, with the Lady Vikings still in the game. Vinton County came out strong to start the second half, cutting the lead to two.

Good adjustments and players not letting up for Vinton County allowed them to make a comeback. Three-point shots falling was a big reason for keeping them in the game. Olive Booth knocked down multiple deep threes for the Lady Vikings and was a key part of their offense.

The Lady Vikings were once down by double digits with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, and they worked to cut down the Braves’ lead, making it a tight game with a few minutes left.

Free-throw shooting is what it came down to at the end, with both teams drawing fouls. The Braves would get fouled with just seconds left, and Gillian Savage would make one of her shots at the line to give Logan Elm a 67-66 lead. Viking Norah Martin went to the line with just over four seconds and would miss both shots to leave the game at 67-66. The Braves would walk away with the win in this one, 68-66.

Logan Elm will improve to 17-3 while Vinton County falls to 13-7.  Next, the Braves will face Hamilton Township, and the Vikings will head to Athens to take on the Bulldogs.
