Ohio Softball dominates Central Michigan 12-7 to win its weekend series

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – It’s the final game of the Ohio Bobcats’ (22-12, 5-4 MAC) series against the Central Michigan Chippewas (14-14, 5-5 MAC). The Bobcats split the doubleheader with the Chippewas, and this time was no different as Ohio won 12-7.

The first inning Ohio was on fire, scoring 6 runs thanks to back-to-back home runs from Sydney Young and Rylee McDaniel along with an easy double from Belle Hummel. Their offense caused an immediate pitching change for the Chippewas. Meanwhile, the Bobcat defense also held up strong with a 1,2, 3 inning. 

Although Central Michigan wouldn’t go down without a fight against the quick Bobcat offense. A home run from Alexa Carter, 2 easy singles and a walk would put Ohio pitcher Skipp Miller in a very tough spot with bases loaded. A pitching change from Miller to Keegan Moore would allow Ohio to only allow 4 runs. 8-4, Ohio after 3 innings. 

Ohio needed a spark going into the final innings and Brenna Farmer provides that spark with a 2-run home run in the fourth inning. With that spark the Bobcat defense was able to smother the Chippewa’s offense and held them to 2 very quick innings with amazing pitching from Moore.  

Although Central Michigan wouldn’t go away with their offense picking up momentum in the seventh inning. It would be too little too late after a pitching change from Moore to Mikie Lieving helped the Bobcats finish out the game 12-7. 

With the Chippewas late run in the game, Coach Hall told her team to “just keep taking care of our stuff. Other teams are going to score; it doesn’t really change what we do on our side,” Hall said.

With this series win, the Bobcats will travel to take on the Ball State Cardinals (13-15, MAC 2-7) on Apr. 3.
