Rock Hill routes Minford in head coach’s first game with the team

IRONTON, Ohio (WOUB) — The Minford Falcons open their season by traveling half an hour to take on the Rock Hill Redmen in week one of the high school football season. Both schools hired new head coaches over the offseason, with Trey Wildes for the Redmen and Josh Bailey for the Falcons. Only one coach can win, though, and Wildes would run away with the game, 49-20.
Rock Hill took no time getting on the scoreboard as senior Braylon McClellan took the opening kickoff to the house to put the Redmen up 7-0. Rock Hill’s defense would follow suit, shutting down Minford on their opening drive. On Rock Hill’s next drive, senior Kelan Davidson rushed the ball in from short range to go up 14-0 on the Falcons. Minford’s offense woke up, though, as senior Bryce McLaughlin would score a rushing touchdown. And following a Rock Hill fumble, junior Colt Donahoe scored. The Falcons would miss the PAT to make the score, 14-13 in favor of the Redmen.
In the second quarter, Rock Hill would strike again on the first play when sophomore quarterback Jarrod Bridges connected with McClellan for a touchdown from their own end of the field. The Redmen would not take their foot off the gas either. Junior Cash Lyons would return a punt to put the ball at Minford’s eight-yard line. A handful of plays later, senior Yaden Bailey would push his way through the Falcons’ defensive line for a two-yard rushing touchdown. Davidson would end the half with style, catching a screen pass on the Redman’s side of the field and finding an open lane to score and put Rock Hill up 35-13.
The second half would see less scoring than the first half. Rock Hill would keep up their dominance, though. Bailey for the Redmen would punch the ball in again for his second rushing touchdown of the night. Minford would keep up the battle against Rock Hill, though, with sophomore Wyatt Swick rushing the ball in for a two-yard rushing touchdown. Just like the first and second quarters, Rock Hill would score on the first play of the fourth quarter; Bridges finds McClellan in the endzone, to put Rock Hill up and stay that way for a final score of 49-20.
Rock Hill (1-0) will look to continue their early-season domination going to Boyd County (1-0). Minford is looking to bounce back from the early-season loss as they host Chesapeake (0-1).
