Pirates dominate the Indians in Wheelersburg

WHEELERSBURG, Ohio (WOUB) — The Valley Indians traveled to Wheelersburg to face the Pirates. The Pirates won 42-0 after an energetic game across all four quarters.
In this Week Five matchup, both teams came in electric, fueled by the crowd from the jump. The Pirates found themselves transferring their energy into tough defensive plays and tackles across the field. But the Indians knew they had to rally back right after, continuing to find the Pirates on defense.
However, both teams were dealt with penalties on both sides of the ball. A total of nine penalties occurred in the first quarter alone.
Wheelersburg was able to use some of the errors as motivation and finally found their offensive footing. Stephen Hall put the Pirates on the board first after a short rushing touchdown, 7-0.
The Pirates took this momentum and ran with it to continue to rush the ball down the field. Quarterback Jack Doerr held the ball himself into the end zone and rushed 22 yards to put Wheelersburg up 14-0.
Valley struggled to respond to Wheelersburg’s run game and kept getting faced off against the powerful Pirate defensive line.
After halftime, Doeer capitalized on offense and kept finding his guys down the field. Doeer handed the ball off again to Hall in the middle of the third quarter. Hall found the scoreboard again, putting up the Pirates to a 21-point lead.
Wheelersburg kept the energy going with a quick touchdown four seconds into the fourth quarter after a long drive to the end of the third. Canann Arthur brought it in for the Pirates after another short rushing play, 28-0.
Valley got the ball back, but Indian quarterback Braxten Conaway threw an interception to Wheelersburg, and it was clear Valley wasn’t coming back.
The Pirates transformed the interception into another touchdown off a pass from Doerr to Brew Hazel for 22 yards. And Wheelersburg secured one final touchdown from Jay King to extend their lead. Pirates secured the win at home, 42-0.
Wheelersburg will travel to Steubenville to play the Big Red, and Valley will host Northwest.
