ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio  Soccer (5–8-1) snapped their two-game losing streak Sunday, defeating Eastern Michigan (6-4-4) 1-0 at Chessa Field behind an early goal from Ella Deevers and a strong defensive performance.

The Bobcats entered the matchup looking to bounce back after consecutive losses against an Eastern Michigan team that entered the contest that also had a two-game losing streak. Both teams struggled to generate offense early, trading possession and limiting scoring opportunities.

Deevers broke the scoreless tie around the ninth minute of the first half, squeezing a shot through multiple defenders to give Ohio a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats continued to pressure Eastern Michigan goalkeeper Ella Holland, who stopped a shot from Jaimason Brooker to keep the deficit at one.

Eastern Michigan responded with an opportunity in the 26th minute. A shot toward the upper-left corner forced Ohio goalkeeper Ayla Rammel into a diving save, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Ohio continued to create chances, with Brooker recording another shot on goal that Holland turned away. The physical play persisted throughout the half, with both teams battling for possession and creating traffic in the penalty area.

With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Ohio’s defense continued to hold firm, denying multiple Eastern Michigan opportunities following corner kicks and goal kicks. The Bobcats controlled possession in their own territory during much of the closing stretch, and Kate Robinson tested Holland with a shot in the 42nd minute. Holland made another save to keep the score at 1-0.

Ohio carried its one-goal advantage into halftime.

The second half brought more of the same physical play, with both teams trading possession as they searched for another goal. In the 10th minute of the second half, Ohio earned a corner kick that set up a shot on goal, but the attempt sailed wide of the left post.

Play was briefly interrupted by another injury timeout as players continued to battle physically.

Ohio earned a free kick shortly afterward after a collision involving Reese Carpenter, who received a yellow card. The Bobcats were unable to convert the opportunity, keeping the score unchanged.

Eastern Michigan attempted to find an equalizer midway through the second half, sending a shot over the crossbar before generating another opportunity from a corner kick.

With 16 minutes remaining, Rammel made a diving save on a shot toward the bottom-right corner. The Eagles continued applying pressure a minute later, when Ciara Brown fired through multiple defenders toward the middle of the goal. Rammel made another diving save to preserve the Bobcat’s lead.

As the final 10 minutes began, Anna Burchett received a yellow card as the physical play continued. Eastern Michigan was then awarded a free kick, presenting the Eagles with another opportunity to tie the game. Rammel denied the attempt, keeping Ohio ahead 1-0.

With Eastern Michigan running out of time to find an equalizer, tensions continued to rise. The Eagles’ bench received a yellow card after several missed scoring opportunities. Following a hard collision with Holland, Ohio’s Lillian Schilling also received a yellow card.

The Bobcats held on through the final whistle to secure the 1-0 victory, snapping their two-game losing streak and improving to 5-8-1 on the season.

Ohio will travel to Muncie, Indiana, to face Ball State on Oct. 25. Eastern Michigan will return home to host Toledo on Oct. 24.
