She allowed just one hit to the away team in a complete game shutout, and aided the Colonels in dropping the ‘Cats, 7-0.
Pittsenbarger’s spectacular performance came just three days after she threw a no-hitter on Saturday. She continued her dominance Tuesday, striking out nine Ohio batters and walking just two.
Eastern Kentucky’s offense played just as well, and it was lead by first baseman Christinia Ciolek. She got a hit in all three of her at-bats. She also accounted for three runs and hit two runs in for her team.
Ohio’s lone hit came from catcher Lauren Gellerman in the third inning with a single to center field.
As for the Bobcats’ starting pitcher, Lauren McClary, she allowed five runs, three of which were earned, in two and a third innings.
Third baseman Sarah Fobbs lead off the bottom of the second inning, and hit a solo home run to right center off of McClary. With the score at 1-0 and the bases loaded, a catcher’s interference call on Gellerman brought an unearned run home for the Colonels. Melissa Costa was then hit by a pitch and Eastern Kentucky tacked on another run to go up 3-0 on the Green and White.
With just one out in the third inning and a runner on third base, Ciolek blasted a pitch over the fence in right center to put her team up 5-0. The two-run shot forced McClary out of the game, and brought in Kaylin Clarke to toe the rubber.
Clark kept Easter Kentucky scoreless until the Colonels added another two runs in the fifth inning. With a runner on second, Ciolek singled to the shortstop. The runners advanced on the hit and a throwing error let another home score. Ciolek came around to score on a double hit to right center, and the Colonels scored their seventh and final run.
After dropping both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader, Ohio will return home to take on Canisius in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will start at 1 p.m.
