Athens County Plans To Make Offer On Property For New Sheriff’s Office
< < Back to athens-county-plans-make-offer-property-new-sheriffs-officeThe Athens County Board of Commissioners plans on making an offer in the next few weeks to purchase a piece of property that will be the new home of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Commissioner Lenny Eliason says.
Plans are to remodel the former Southeast Import Superstore car dealership on Columbus Road.
Eliason said the county may decide to move the EMS office to that location as well.
Eliason said commissioners have been looking at moving the Sheriff’s office for some time because of safety and response time concerns among some of the reasons.
The purchase of the property would be funded from bonds the county plans on issuing sometime later this year or next year. The bonds would also be used to fund other renovations and improvements to the Courthouse annex.
