On The Green Weekend To Feature “Through The Decades” Film Festival
< < Back toHave you ever dreamed of seeing your classic film favorites on the big screen once again? During On The Green Weekend (May 27-30) you can enjoy a fun-filled weekend in Athens, including some of the most memorable flicks of your youth.
The Ohio University Alumni Association’s spring Homecoming Weekend will feature a special “Through the Decades” film festival at the Athena Cinema. The festival is broken into three decades with movies from 1965, 1975 and 1985.
“It’s 2015 so we figured we’d go through the decades of the 15. It’s a way to tie the films in with those coming back for reunions,” said Ali Wills, assistant director for strategic partnerships at OUAA. “We looked at the top 10 films of ’65, ’75 and ’85 and then, of those films, we chose ones that are so much better on the big screen.”
The 1965 Film Fest will begin on Thursday, May 28, and will feature screenings of The Sound of Music at 4 p.m. and the timeless James Bond hit Thunderball at 8 p.m.
The classics will continue on Friday, May 29, with the 1975 Film Fest, which will show another two unforgettable flicks: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at 6 p.m. and Jaws at 9 p.m.
As an added bonus, guests are also invited to watch Pride, a 2014 movie about the collaboration between U.K. gay activists and the National Union of Mineworkers during the mineworker strike in 1984. Pride will be shown at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
To end on an exciting note, Saturday’s 1985 Film Festival will show two of thart year’s most cherished films, beginning at 5 p.m. with The Goonies, and concluding with Back to the Future at 8 p.m.
“Part of what you’re coming to campus for is to remember periods of time in your life and these films really highlight those eras, said Wills. “I think movies help bring you back to that time, and coming to campus for On The Green Weekend is a way of revisiting where you were and how far you’ve come since your time as a student.”
Additional OTG events include tours throughout Athens, a welcome reception, a 5k Bobcat Dash color run, brunch at Pepsi Tailgreat Park, hayrides at The Ridges and much more.
