New Pollution Guidelines For EPA

An Ohio Supreme Court ruling could change how environmental regulators impose pollution limits on state bodies of water.
The court said last week that the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency must give out public notices and hold hearings before issuing pollution limits.
The ruling stems from an issue involving a wastewater-treatment plant in Fairfield County.
Commissioners in the county said they were denied the right to challenge the imposition of stricter limits on the plant that discharges treated water into a creek.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Justice Terrence O’Donnell wrote that he disagreed and worries the decision would invalidate nearly 1,800 water pollution limits already imposed by the Ohio EPA.
