Ohio Fourth at All-Ohio Championships

Ohio translated its rivalry spirit on Miami’s turf into a strong and weighted team performance Friday and Saturday.

The Bobcats took first while scoring 53 points at the All-Ohio Championship on Friday.

Ashlee Bilhimer got the competition going, throwing a season high of 43.46 meters in the javelin. Mackenize Rankin placed third with a throw 33.11 meters. She also set personal records in heptathlon, shot put and the 200-meter dash. Rankin took fourth in the 100-meter in hurdles with 15.23 on the stopwatch, fifth in shot put with a toss of 9.55 meters and sixth in the 200-meter dash with a 26.87 time.

Oliva Mayfield and Erika Armstead both shared the accomplishment of personal bests in the high jump. Mayfield jumped 5.71 meters while Armstead hopped for 5.39 meters for second and third place finishes, respectively.

Krista Roehig crossed the finish line for second place in the 10,000-meter run in 37:55.49.

The hammer throw was a highlight for the Green and White as seniors Donyelle Brown and Janiece Rose both placed in the top-five. Brown took second, tossing the hammer 55.47 meters. Rose earned fifth with a career-high fling of 53.06 meters.

Friday came to a conclusion with junior Peyton Adkins’s fourth place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a 11:31.71time.

On Saturday the ‘Cats held a top-five place, polling in at fourth.

Despite the Bobcats’ efforts, the RedHawks took advantage of being the home team, beating Ohio 152-94.

The 4×100 saw a team of Mya Hodge, Olivia Mayfield, Kristin Winkel and Tajah Smith at fourth place at 48.20 seconds.

Tara Tollett and Maureen Dean earned third and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run posting times of 17:53.17 and 17:59.22.

Rankin took fourth place in her Saturday events. She posted 4306 points in the heptathlon, flung the javelin 34.03 meters and reached the finish line in 2:28.73 in the 800-meter run.

Jordan Porter recorded a personal best in shot-put, throwing for 14.22 meters, earning fifth, while Janiece Rose threw for 13.87 meters.

Tessa Weigand also followed her strong performance at the event last year with a career-best 4:40.05 in the 1500-meter run.

Mayfield beat her previous record, with an eighth place, 12.71 mark. Smith ended the race at ninth place, running 12.73.

Ohio’s next stop is Muncie, Ind., for Friday’s Cardinal Invitational.
