Ohio track and field went south to Winston-Salem, N.C., as its first outdoor meet took place over the weekend. The transition from the indoor to outdoor field was handled well by the Green and White as they managed to post 12 top-10 finishes between Friday and Saturday.

Ohio put its strongest foot forward on Friday’s portion of the invitational.

Throwers Jordan Porter, Janiece Rose and Donyelle Brown took advantage of their first meet on outdoor turf. Porter finished with gold in shot put with a throw of 14.04 meters. Rose and Brown managed strong performances as well, as Rose finished fourth with a toss of 13.50 meters and Brown finished eighth with a mark of 12.62 meters.

In the other portion of field events, sophomore Taylor Smith jumped 1.65 meters to place fifth in high jump.

When not throwing or jumping, the Bobcats displayed their endurance on the track. Tessa Weigand ran 4:50.77 seconds in the 1500-meter to finish fourth, while Tara Tollet, Kayla Scott and Peyton Adkins all posted top ten finishes in the 5000-meter run. Tollet finished seventh running 17:46.91. Scott placed eighth, running a time of 17:49:71, while Adkins placed tenth, running 17:53:14 seconds.

To conclude the meet at Wake Forest on Saturday, the upperclassmen were a source of strength for the Bobcats. Juniors Tessa Weigand earned fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:31.01 on the stopwatch, while Ashlee Bilhimer finished ninth in javelin, throwing it 42.01 meters.

The Bobcats will continue their quest next weekend as they head out to Rock Hill, S.C., to compete in the Winthrop Invitational.
