Fired Deputy Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Witnesses

A fired Athens County sheriff’s deputy has filed a defamation lawsuit in Athens County Common Pleas Court against the people who provided information that led to his dismissal.
Sheriff Rodney Smith fired Shannon Sheridan last December for 18 alleged violations of sheriff’s office rules and for allegedly not complying with a “last chance” agreement with the office. Sheridan is appealing his dismissal to the State Personnel Board of Review.
