Louisville Offense Too Much For Bobcats

The Louisville Cardinals (3-1) used a rush of offense at the beginning of the second half to take a stranglehold lead in their match against the Ohio Bobcats (1-3) and cruse to a 6-2 victory.
After taking a 2-1 lead into the half, the hosting Cardinals scored four goals in just 18 minutes to eliminate any hopes of a second-half Ohio comeback.
Louisville’s Erin Schneidtmiller was the centerpiece of the Cardinals’ offensive explosion, scoring two goals in four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Both of Schneidtmiller’s goals were tap-ins into empty nets after winning challenges against Ohio goalie, Brittany Walker.
The loss spoiled a homecoming for three Bobcats who played high school field hockey in Louisville.
Riley Higgins (Assumption High School), as well as Katie Fenzel and Hannah Kingsbury (duPont Manual High School) combined for just one shot in the contest, when Kingsbury put the ball on goal at 55:04. But Louisville goalkeeper Sydney King (3-1) turned the shot away for her one and only save of the game.
Walker (1-3) had a much busier day than her counterpart, facing 14 shots and four shots on goal in 46 minutes of work between the pipes. The Cardinals got to Walker for three goals, chasing the junior from the game.
Lina Trucco replaced Walker for the final 24 minutes of the game, but the redshirt freshman also had trouble with Louisville’s relentless attack, allowing three goals on five shots on goal.
Luli Gomez Teruel was the bright spot for the Bobcats yet again, opening and closing the scoring in the contest with goals at 7:19 and 64:16, taking advantage of penalty opportunities.
The senior’s first goal came off of a set play on a penalty corner while she scored her second goal on a penalty kick.
Teruel’s pair of tallies extended her scoring streak to three games and brought her team-leading goal total on the year to five.
Teruel’s first marker gave the Bobcats a brief lead before Louisville scored the next six goals of the game.
Lotta Kahlert scored an unassisted goal at 12:29 to draw even.
Eight minutes later, Alyssa Voelmle scored (20’), deflecting a penalty corner shot into the net to give the Cardinals a lead that they would not surrender.
Paige Monsen scored the eventual game-winner at 41:45, one timing a pass from Elisa Garcia into the cage. The assist was Garcia’s second of the game.
Michelle Amon rounded out Louisville’s scoring with her goal in the 60th minute.
Ohio will have five days off to prepare for two more challenging opponents. The Bobcats will play California and No. 11 Northwestern in a weekend series in Evanston, Ill., on Sept. 14-15.
