John Glenn Hoping to Overcome MVL Elite

Consistency is the name of the game in football. The John Glenn Little Muskies have struggled in the last two seasons to establish it.
The Little Muskies were among the middle of the pack in the MVL last season, finishing at 4-6 (3-5). A return to the playoffs is on the brain, along with capturing the team’s first league title since 1980.
It appeared John Glenn was en route to accomplishing both of those goals towards the beginning of last year. The Little Muskies won four of their first six before stumbling to a 0-4 finish.
First-year head coach Matt Edwards, who served as an assistant for the past three years, will be tasked with guiding the Little Muskies above .500. Having already formed trust with the team, players have grown to admire the passion he brings to practice. He is the kind of coach who is always vocal on the sidelines.
Edwards comes into a unique situation as a new head coach allowing his value of toughness to spread to all positions. Edwards remains optimistic about his squad going into the season, especially in his offensive and defensive lines.
“The strength for our team is going to be up front,” Edwards said. “We really feel like we have some experience on the offensive and defensive lines.”
Offensive line play will be key in big yardage games against top conference opponents. Last season, John Glenn lost every game it played against the league’s top teams (Tri-Valley, Maysville, Sheridan and New Lexington). The Little Muskies managed only 85 yards of offense against Tri-Valley.
Struggles against the MVL’s best also arose on the defensive side of the ball. Those four teams ripped through John Glenn’s defense to the tune of 34.5 points per game.
However, that was last season, and Edwards has his sights set on the next on the upcoming months.
“We just have to come out and worry about ourselves first of all,” Edwards stated. “Come out and try to get better each and every day and Friday night will take care of Friday night.”
John Glenn kicks off its season on Friday, Aug. 28 with a home against Bloom-Carroll.
