OU Police Chief Andrew Powers says Levi Canterbury, 21, is accused of picking up a female OU student in Athens on September 15, driving her to a parking lot and raping her in his car.
Police say Canterbury was deployed with a national guard unit in Texas.
He was arrested with help from the U.S. Marshal's Service and several other law enforcement agencies.
Canterbury is currently being held in the El Paso County jail.
He is awaiting extradition to Ohio and his bond is set at $200,000.
"It was truly a coordinated team effort," says Powers. "I am happy that as a result, we were quickly able to apprehend the alleged perpetrator."
