Federal Hocking General Fund to Pay for Free Milk
< < Back to federal-hocking-general-fund-to-pay-for-free-milkSchool lunches at Federal Hocking Local Schools had a little something extra Monday.
All students had access to free milk, even students bringing their own lunches.
Superintendent Wood said the Federal Hocking general fund will cover the expense because federal money cannot be used for a giveaway. After crunching the numbers, Wood said the annual cost will not go above $9,100.
“Our goal is to have a free public education for every kid. We don’t have school fees. We don’t charge for breakfast. We don’t charge for lunch. Now we don’t charge for milk,” Superintendent George Wood said.
Two years ago the school district launched their free lunch program for all students. This program includes a hot lunch and milk for all students.
During last Tuesday’s board meeting, Superintendent Wood suggested students who bring their lunch also receive milk free of charge.
“We’re trying to find every way we can to live up that great American mission to a free public education for kids because their parents shouldn’t have to worry about where do I find $.30 for milk,” Wood said.
