Field Hockey Takes Overtime Win

The Ohio field hockey team traveled to Missouri State Friday, Oct. 11, to take on the Bears in its Mid-American Conference opener and walked off the field with a 3-2 overtime win.
Missouri State scored the first goal within the first five minutes of the game, but the ‘Cats responded shortly after thanks to senior Luli Gomez Teruel. With an assist from freshman Franziska Schmiedel, Teruel scored from the left side of the cage to tie the game at 1-1.
Teruel would score again to tie up the game ten minutes into the second half off an assist by freshman Adele Sammons. Her tap into the goal put Ohio at 2-2, where the score stayed the rest of regulation play.
Sammons not only had an assist but also is credited with scoring the winning goal. Only six minutes into the overtime period, Sammons was able to capitalize off of a corner pass made by junior Caelyn Hartley and scored her first winning goal of the season, making it 3-2.
Ohio controlled the game offensively. holding advantages in corners with 10. Missouri State only had six.
A hurtle for the ‘Cats was a 15-minute span where they were down a player due to two yellow cards. The Ohio defense was able to squelch any opportunities the Bears might have had while playing with an extra man on the field.
Ohio will continue their tour of Missouri at Saint Louis University on Sunday, Oct. 13, as they take on the Billikens at 1 p.m.
