Eastern Eagles: Dec. 20-27

The Eastern Eagles remain winless on the season, sitting at 0-7 after a Dec. 22 loss to the Waterford Wildcats. However, the Eagles believe they have a strong chance to turn around their season as long as they continue to put in a strong effort.
The Eagles effort fell short with Waterford beating them 81-44. Half of the Eastern’s team points came from behind the arc, shooting 14 for 27. Coach Jeremy Hill said the Eagles knew they shot the ball well, they just needed to defend the shot and get the rebound but it is hard to get a rebound “when the ball is falling from the net.”
Eastern switched things up, playing man-to-man defense, which goes against its usual zone scheme. The Eagles are only seven deep on the bench and Close felt a man defense was the team’s best option to defend the three and crash the boards.
The Eagles struggled with turnovers throughout the game. The team accumulated 18 turnovers throughout the game.
Offensively the Eagles had one thing, or rather one person, going for them. Jett Chasemeyer broke his personal record with 30 points, 10 above his season average. Dylan Swatzle tried his best to help with nine points. The duo accounted for 89 percent of Eastern’s points.
Even after a tough loss, to continue a tough start to the season, Hill and the players stay positive. Cameron Richmond, who returns Jan. 5, is another reason to be positive. He is a big help to this team with his leadership and ability to score while having great ball control.
“When they show up with the right mindset, they can compete,” Hill explained.
The Eagles return to play Jan. 2 when they travel to face an undefeated Meigs squad.
