Gary Clark Jr., Courtney Barnett Added to NMF ’16
< < Back toStuart’s Opera House has announced more acts for the 12th annual Nelsonville Music Festival, scheduled for June 2-5 at Robbins Crossing, located on the campus of Hocking College.
The second round adds Gary Clark, Jr. (Friday, June 3) and Courtney Barnett (Thursday, June 2), along with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Fruit Bats, Steve Poltz, John Moreland, The Wild Reeds, Hańba and Jack Wright to the NMF ’16 lineup.
These artists join Randy Newman (Sunday, June 5), The Tallest Man on Earth, Mac DeMarco, BADBADNOTGOOD, Angel Olsen, Twin Peaks, Marco Benevento, Son Little, All Them Witches, Michael Hurley, Daniel Bachman, Joan Shelley and Mojoflo, with many other acts to be announced.
According to a release, “Gary Clark, Jr. is a perfect fit for the Nelsonville Music Festival.” With his debut album, Blak And Blu, Clark became the first-ever artist with Grammy nominations in both the rock and R&B categories for the same album in the same year, winning the latter: Best Traditional R&B Performance. His fans include Barack Obama, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Page, Jay-Z and Roger Waters, and Rolling Stone dubbed him “the chosen one.” His latest album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, was released last September.
In just a few short years, Grammy-nominated Courtney Barnett has taken the music world by storm and is set to do the same at NMF. Mixing witty, often hilarious, occasionally heartbreaking observations with devastating self-assessment, Barnett’s debut full-length, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, cements her standing as one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in indie rock. She’s drawn acclaim from every corner of music journalism and her successful 2015 was capped off with a 2016 Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
The Nelsonville Music Festival will feature more than 40 acts on multiple stages, along with camping, kids’ activities, artisan vendors, food, a beer garden and more. Weekend passes for all four days are on sale now for $125 (with no fees) and the price will raise from there until the gate price the weekend of the festival.
Weekend passes for Nelsonville residents and teens are $65, and kids 12 and under will be admitted free. Camping passes and VIP weekend passes to the festival are also on sale now. Tickets and information can be found at nelsonvillefest.org or by calling (740) 753-1924.
