After Union Protest, W.Va. Begins Considering Right-To-Work

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – After a sizable union protest in the Capitol the previous day, state senators have begun taking up a push to make West Virginia the 26th right-to-work state.
The Republican-led Senate’s Judiciary Committee started discussing the legislation Thursday, the second day of the 60-day legislative session.
Hundreds of union members filled the Capitol and chanted “right to work is wrong” during a rally Wednesday evening. Unions have already begun advertising against the change, and business groups have spent money in support of it.
Committee work on the bill will continue Friday.
Republican Senate President Bill Cole says the proposal may be ready for floor discussion next week.
