Griffin Lutz Injury Update
< < Back to griffin-lutz-injury-updateGriffin Lutz, Athens’ junior point guard, has officially been ruled out for the rest of the season according to multiple sources close to Lutz.
Lutz broke his foot in Tuesday night’s upset win over the Vinton County Vikings with 20 seconds left in regulation, when he landed awkwardly after making a layup to put the Bulldogs ahead.
According to Griffin’s father Tim Lutz, the point guard was diagnosed with a Talonavicular fracture in his right foot, an injury that will end his season.
“[Griffin will be] in a hard cast for at least six weeks,” Athens head coach Jeff Skinner said earlier today.
According to Tim Lutz, test results will reveal more information in the next few days to determine the extent of further damage in the foot outside of the fracture.
The Bulldogs overcame the loss of their leader to defeat the Vikings in overtime 79-75.
Lutz has been the driving force behind the Bulldog’s recent streak of success. He had 27 points and 11 rebounds against the Vikings after notching a triple-double against New Lexington a week earlier.
