< < Back to waterford-dominates-its-way-into-sectional-finalIn the sectional semifinal, the Waterford Lady Wildcats continued a dominating season with a 49-25 victory over the Western Lady Indians.
The Lady Wildcats had some offensive troubles with missing open shots but still went on runs and ran away from the Lady Indians.
Early in the first quarter, Western had a small 6-4 lead over the Lady Wildcats, but Waterford ended the first quarter with a 10-2 run to end the quarter. Waterford continued in the second quarter, allowing only four Western points, leading to a 30-12 halftime lead.
Waterford’s defense was stellar all night, not allowing the Lady Indians to get over 10 points in any quarter. The Lady Wildcats scored more in the first half than the Indians scored in the entire game.
Waterford also did not allow a single Western player to score over 10 points. The Lady Indians’ leading scorer, CC Shanks, had only six points and none in the second half.
On the offensive side, Waterford relied on Regan Porter and Alli Kern. Porter crushed under the basket and had 17 points, leading the Lady Wildcats. Alli Kern had 11 points, but was a bigger factor with her nine rebounds, including four on the offensive side.
Waterford was able to run over Western, but it won’t be as easy in the sectional final. Waterford (23-1) will have no easy task for a tenth district title. The Lady Wildcats will need to beat Portsmouth Notre Dame (21-3) to advance. Notre Dame advanced with a 54-25 win over the Belpre Lady Golden Eagles.
