WOUB Public Media is a nonprofit, public service media organization based at Ohio University, serving southeastern Ohio and parts of West Virginia and Kentucky. WOUB Radio’s FM Network broadcasts from transmitters in Athens, Chillicothe, Ironton, Zanesville and Cambridge. You can hear the latest news and conversation from NPR, great local and national cultural and entertainment programs, and locally-produced music of Americana, Alternative/Indie and Bluegrass music. WOUB-AM serves the immediate Athens area with a variety of talk, sports and music programs not heard on FM. Both stations broadcast 24 hours a day and stream online at woub.org.

WOUB serves a diverse and largely rural region. We are committed to reflecting the full range of experiences, perspectives, and voices across our coverage area. Our journalism focuses on issues that shape daily life, including education, health, economic development, public affairs, arts and culture, and community life.
We engage regularly with community members, local leaders, and subject-matter experts to ensure our reporting is relevant, responsive, and grounded in the needs of the people we serve.
Editorial Independence
WOUB is committed to producing journalism that is accurate, fair, and independent. All editorial decisions are made by our newsroom leadership and journalists based on newsworthiness and the public interest.
We maintain full editorial control over story selection, reporting, and publication. Donors, sponsors, advertisers, government entities, Ohio University, and partner organizations do not have the right to review, influence, or approve editorial content.
Accuracy and Accountability
Accuracy is central to our work. Before publication or broadcast, we strive to verify information and provide appropriate context.
When errors occur, we correct them promptly and transparently.
Corrections may include:
- Incorrect names, dates, or locations
- Misstated facts or data
- Errors in reporting or production
How we correct:
- Digital stories include a correction note
- Broadcast errors are corrected on-air
- Social media errors are updated or removed

Funding and Transparency
WOUB Public Media is supported by a mix of funding sources, including individual contributions, grants, underwriting, and public funding.
All charitable contributions are managed through The Ohio University Foundation, and grant funding is administered through Ohio University in accordance with established policies. You can find the Foundation’s IRS 990 form here.
We are committed to transparency in our funding and comply with applicable reporting and disclosure requirements.
Editorial Independence from Funding
Funding does not influence our journalism.
- Donors and sponsors do not review or approve coverage
- We do not accept funding that conditions editorial decisions
- Any relevant relationships are disclosed to audiences
WOUB maintains a clear separation between editorial and fundraising activities to preserve the integrity of our newsroom.
Government and Institutional Support
As part of Ohio University and the public media system, WOUB may receive public funding through government-supported programs or resources.
These funding sources do not influence editorial decisions. Our journalism remains independent and guided by established professional standards.
Training the Next Generation
WOUB is both a professional newsroom and a teaching environment. Students work alongside experienced journalists, gaining practical experience in reporting, production, and storytelling while adhering to established journalistic ethics and standards.
