Ohio AG: Of 13,000 Rape Kits Submitted, Three-Fourths Tested
< < Back to ohio-ag-of-13000-rape-kits-submitted-three-fourths-testedCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The state says law enforcement agencies in Ohio have submitted more than 13,000 sexual assault kits for DNA testing under an initiative to check for evidence from previously untested kits.
About three-fourths of those have been tested.
The Ohio Attorney General’s office says over 10,400 kits have been tested for links from DNA obtained from sexual assault victims.
Attorney General Mike DeWine launched the testing initiative in 2011 and says suspects have been indicted in hundreds of cases.
Legislation that took effect last year required that any remaining untested sexual assault kits associated with crimes be submitted by Ohio law enforcement agencies to a crime laboratory by last month.
Rape kits from new cases are required to be submitted within a month after investigators determine a crime was committed.
