Bobcats Top Dayton

Behind stellar pitching and a big sixth inning, the Ohio Bobcats (15-17) defeated Dayton (10-22) 4-3 Tuesday night in Dayton.
The game started out shaky for Ohio starting pitcher Michael Klein, as he allowed two early runs in the bottom of the first inning. Following a leadoff walk, back-to-back singles from Dayton’s Aaron Huesman and Nick Ryan had the Flyers out in front early 2-0.
Klein finished the game with four innings pitched, two hits, two earned runs, and three strikeouts.
From there, relief pitcher Gerry Salisbury came in and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits. From the bottom of the second, to the top of the sixth, there were no batters for either team reached base, as 22 consecutive hitters were retired.
Anthony Mrosla started off the top of the sixth inning with a single to left field. Mateus Vakuda then reached safely after a throwing error. Left fielder Mitch Longo came up and hit a line drive single to right field, loading the bases for Manny De Jesus. After a De Jesus pop out to the second basemen, freshman Rudy Rott came to the plate and hit a single down the right field line, scoring Mrosla and Vakuda.
Following a John Adryan walk, Cody Gaertner and Ty Black both had singles to right field scoring Ohio’s third and fourth runs.
Ohio’s closer, Jake Roehn came in during the eighth inning to try and close out the Flyers. Roehn was able to get out of the eight inning with no trouble before running into some trouble in the ninth.
Roehn struck out the first two batters he faced, but a double by Cameron Silva, a hit batter, and two singles in a row cut the Ohio lead down to one run.
A mound visit by coach Rob Smith calmed Roehn down, and he struck out the last batter, leaving two Flyers on base.
Roehn finished the five out save with three hits allowed, one run, and four strikeouts.
Ohio will have two days off before it travels to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons in the first of a three game series.
