The university says David R. Hopkins will step down in June 2017. He has held the office since 2007 and is the school’s sixth president.
The 67-year-old Hopkins had planned to retire last year. But the university says he agreed to a contract extension in order to finish several university initiatives, including a campus expansion and hosting a general election presidential debate this year.
Hopkins came to Wright State from Indiana State University. He was at Indiana State from 2001 to 2003 as senior associate vice president for academic affairs and interim dean of its business school.
He was Wright State’s provost from 2003 until his appointment as president in February 2007.
