Bobcat Baseball Adds Four to Recruiting Class
< < Back to bobcat-baseball-adds-four-to-recruiting-classThe Ohio University baseball team has added four recruits to its 2016-17 recruiting class, the team announced on Wednesday.
Nick Byrnes, Gus Cunningham, Jack Longo and Dan McCauley join the five other players that have already committed to the Bobcats. Byrnes is a pitcher, Cunningham is an infielder, Longo is an outfielder and McCauley is a catcher.
Byrnes is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-hander from Moeller High School in Cincinnati. In 2015, Byrnes helped Moeller win the Ohio High School Athletics Association State Title.
Cunningham is coming to Athens by way of Fort Myers, Fla. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound infielder made it to the final four of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s tournament in both 2014 and 2015 at Canterbury High School. Cunningham was named to the all-state team in 2014. Canterbury was named one of the top 25 teams in Florida in 2016 by Perfect Game, MaxPreps and Prep Baseball.
Longo is a name that should be familiar to Bobcat fans. Jack’s brother, Mitch, is currently one of Ohio’s best players. Jack may not be far behind his brother in terms of talent, though. The outfielder is 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds, and is a three-time varsity letter winner at Mayfield High School in Mayfield, Ohio. Longo is a career .409 hitter with 79 hits, 69 RBI and 28 stolen bases. Longo was a member of the All-Western Reserve Conference teams in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Longo was a Preseason Division I All-State pick by Prep Baseball and is the fifth-ranked outfielder in Ohio in the 2016 class as ranked by Prep Baseball.
Rounding out the group is McCauley, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound catcher from Sewickley, Pa. McCauley is hitting .417 this season and is a three-time varsity letter winner for North Allegheny High School.
The Bobcats (20-23) are coming off a win over Morehead State on Tuesday and return to Athens for a weekend series against Central Michigan (12-32).
The series opener is on Friday with a 6 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
