Big Fourth Inning Spurs Ohio Softball To Victory
< < Back to big-fourth-inning-spurs-ohio-softball-victoryAfter starting slow, Ohio roared out of the gates in the fourth inning to ultimately pull out a 10-7 win over UNC Greensboro.
After scoring two and yielding four in the bottom of the third inning, Ohio came out swinging in the fourth inning.
Alyssa Wolfe cranked a home run to left as the first Bobcat hitter of the inning. Amanda Dalton followed with a single, advanced on a passed ball and advanced again after a Raven King single. After Casie Hutchinson walked to load the bases, Alexandria Basquez flew out to deep center field to score Dalton, and pulling the Bobcats within one.
Kaylin Clarke followed by putting the ball in play, but a three-run error by Spartans’ left fielder Kendall McKinney gave Ohio a shot in the arm, and a two-run lead.
Dakota Pyles rounded out the scoring with a bomb that put a nine-spot on the board for the victorious Bobcats.
Ohio added on another run in the fifth, and fended off the Spartans’ charge late in the game to hold on.
Ohio starter Lauren McClary started the game off well, shutting down the Spartans in the first two innings before giving up a four-spot to UNC Greensboro.
McClary then went another out and gave the ball up to Raven King who pitched the next two innings, allowing only one earned run on six hits over three innings. She picked up the win for the Bobcats, here first of the season.
Basquez led the Ohio charge with three RBIs, while Dalton, Wolfe, and Adrienne Gebele all contributed two hits.
Savannah Jo Dorsey came on for the final two outs to earn the save.
