Dorsey Allows Just Two Hits, Ohio Wins Sixth Straight

Earning her fifth victory in six games, sophomore Savannah Jo Dorsey mowed through the Southern Illinois lineup all afternoon. It was Ohio’s second game in the Osprey Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Bobcats won in a close-contest yet again, 2-0.
Dorsey surrendered only two hits through seven innings of work, maintaining a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Salukis managed to crack out a few hits. Dorsey struck out six Salukis in pitching her third complete game (and first shutout) of the season.
By mixing up a solid fastball with a deceptive changeup, Dorsey has helped Ohio jump out to a 6-0 start. She has now allowed four earned runs in 27 innings pitched.
Amanda Dalton scored both runs for the Bobcats. She scored first when freshman Casie Hutchinson knocked one of her three base hits, this one in the third inning to send Ohio up 1-0.
Dalton scored again when Alexandria Basquez grounded out with the bases loaded, putting Ohio on top 2-0.
Ohio had its chances to add to its lead, but stranded eight runners. It turned out, as often is the case with Dorsey on the mound, two runs sufficed.
In addition to her pitching prowess, Dorsey picked up her first hit of the season in her 10th at-bat of the year.
After scoring 33 runs in their first four games, the Bobcats were looking like an offensive juggernaut. The first day of the Osprey Invitational, as it turns out, saw the small-ball type performance that coach Jodi Hermanek expected out of the ball club to start the season.
