Lauren McClary posted her best performance of the season thus far in helping Ohio softball to rebound and win in their second game of the day in Chattanooga at the Frost Classic. A 5-2 win over the Austin Peay Governors has Ohio in place to begin a new winning streak.

McClary picked up her first ‘W’ of the season by going seven innings without giving up an earned run, in addition to striking out seven and only walking one Governor batter.

The Ohio bats did their job as the ‘Cats notched 11 hits, with four players — Amanda Dalton, Alexia Cortez, Alexandria Basquez, and Madison Claytor — collecting two hits apiece.

The Bobcats exploded in the first to score four of their five runs. The first three Ohio batters reached base before Basquez drove in two with a double. Claytor followed with a single to score a run and Gebele pushed a run across the plate on a ground ball double play.

With the success offensively, Dalton upped her batting average to .444 on the season. Cortez picked up her second and third hits of the season in the win. Basquez’s two hits helped her pick up two RBIs in the game with Casie Hutchinson and Claytor both picking up one ribbeye steak.

The game was the second of the day for the Bobcats, who suffered their first loss of the season in the previous game just a few short hours before. The 6:30 p.m. start time was pushed back from its original 11:00 a.m. thanks to wet field conditions.

Ohio handed the Governors their ninth loss of the season, opposed to three wins, as Austin Peay hurler Brianna Bartuccio incurred the brunt of the Bobcat offensive attack. Ohio made consistent contact, striking out only three times on the day.
