Sustainability Film Series Returns to Athena Cinema

The Common Experience Project on Sustainability is kicking off their fall film series with a reception and screening of “Racing Extinction” on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Athena Cinema. The reception will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by the film screening at 7 p.m.

The series pairs documentary films dealing with environmental issues with talkbacks, panel discussions and Q&A’s exploring solutions. Panels often feature students, faculty and community members and filmmakers to give the audience a wide range of perspectives on the topic of the film. Many of the documentaries are critically acclaimed and only available in select locations across the country. In addition to these nationally distributed films, this year’s series also features a short film by local filmmaker Jean Andrews. Another film in the series, Chesire, Ohio, will feature a talkback with the director.

This series has grown in popularity over the last few years with over 1,300 attendees to last year’s series. Tickets are free, however there are a limited number of seats available. The events also feature raffles with prizes from local businesses. All films start at 7 p.m.

The Common Experience Project on Sustainability is an initiative developed by University College.
