It’s only week two, but it is statement time for Meigs (1-0) and Amanda-Clearcreek (0-1).

TVC-Ohio favorite Meigs opened the year with a dominating 42-7 victory over the Gallia Academy Blue Devils.

Amanda-Clearcreek suffered a sloppy 20-19 upset against Lakewood.  The Aces failed to convert on two extra point attempts, leading to the loss.

The matchup is an opportunity for both teams to show they are forces to be reckon with.  With a win, Meigs can remain undefeated and prove the Marauders can defeat teams of high skill.  Amanda-Clearcreek can avenge the tough loss and prove the Aces can hang with the big teams at the top.

The key to the matchup is how the Meigs defense handles Amanda-Clearcreek’s back R.J. Martin.  Martin rushed for two touchdowns and 146 yards total against Lakewood.

Meigs’ offense has tools all over the field.  Quarterback Cody Bartrum can connect with brother Zach Bartrum, Bailey Caruthers, Christian Mattox and others for long gains and touchdowns.  Bartrum passed for 240 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 86 yards and another touchdown.

The Marauders will be the favorite to win and will also have the home field advantage.  The Aces will not be pushovers, but it will be difficult to be on top of the all-around talented Meigs squad.
